這本書選了共二十三首英文聖誕歌，編曲還可以（有點簡單），但選曲方面選得很好，不論聖詩及通俗的聖誕歌統統有，還包括如【紅鼻子麋鹿】（Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer）及【雪人佛斯帝】Frosty the Snowman等曲子－－不過後來覺得這兩首與「耶穌誕生」的題目相去較遠，就沒有選進曲目裡了。
這首許多人聽過的聖誕歌曲原名《Carol of the Drum》，用的是捷克古調。在查這首歌的故事及起源時，花了很多工夫。看來是先有歌再有故事的樣子。簡單的故事可見歌詞：天使宣告聖嬰誕生，牧羊人傳開消息，於是許多人都準備了禮物，想去朝見彌賽亞；而貧窮的小鼓手卻身無分文，只好用他的鼓聲當禮物，接著在馬槽中的所有動物, 包括綿羊、牛等都一邊聽一邊跟著打拍子，一同慶祝耶穌的誕生。
